The dates for the 2019 teaching terms are shown below:

Term 1 (New Year and Easter):

January 13th – March 31st

Excluding the following dates: February 17th & February 24th

Syllabus covered:

Rookies lifesavers will continue on the paths they have been working on from the year before and that is outlined in the RLSS Rookie Lifeguard Instructors manual.

Survive and Save candidates will be focusing on winter time survival techniques ranging from cold water shock, hypothermia and frostbite to cold burns and ice survival. Swimming will be focused on long distance events in the range of 200 – 400m from the sports awards, these include the Super Lifesaver and the Rescue Medley.

Term 2 (Spring and Summer):

April 28th – July 21st

Excluding the following dates:  May 26th & June 2nd

Syllabus covered:

Rookies lifesavers will continue on the paths they have been working on from the term before and that is outlined in the RLSS Rookie Lifeguard Instructors manual.

Survive and Save candidates will be focussing on summer time lifesaving techniques ranging from heat exhaustion, burns, scalds and dehydration to treatment for casualties that have become unconscious and may or may not be breathing. Swimming will be focused on medium distance and speed training, distances will be maximum 200m but speed and times will be a key aspect in training.

Term 3 (Autumn and Winter)

September 8th – December 15th

Excluding the following dates: October 27th & 3rd November

Rookies lifesavers will continue on the paths they have been working on from the term before and that is outlined in the RLSS Rookie Lifeguard Instructors manual.

Survive and Save candidates will be focusing on general aspects of first aid and resuscitation not covered by the other terms this includes sprains, strains and breakages to casualty care, CPR and all aspects of bandages. Swimming will be focused on wet-side incidents where we will simulate en emergency situation in which the candidates are the authority for casualty care and incident management.
